Our Story

Some people want to write, some people want to publish, and some people want to do a little bit of both. Me? I prefer to do a bit of both, because I like to bake my cake and eat it, too.

Unless you are an A-List author, publishers take too much in the digital age. They are too bloated and cumbersome, their old system too inflexible to remain cost-effective for anything but the biggest of names. For all other authors, they provide some editing and packaging and little else, leaving authors to handle their own PR and sales. Hardly seems worth it for 80% of the profit.

In my opinion, an author is far better off working alone than with a publisher. I created UWS Publishing to give indie authors a fighting chance.

I know how it is. Really, who has a huge budget for book production? Next to nobody. Yet, to compete with the publishing houses, an author needs strong editing, proper formatting, and all of the help with marketing and packaging that they can get. It’s tough out there, and it’s getting tougher. Being a writer myself, I felt that there should be a better, faster, cheaper way to bring quality services to everyone that needs them. I couldn’t find a company that I liked that did that, so I decided to make one.

While crafting and refining UWS, I spent a lot of time figuring out how to provide top-level support at competitive prices. I wanted a system that complemented an author’s methods rather than taking away from them. It had to meld into established social networks and optimize the blend between help from friends and services from professionals. It also had to be flexible―able to start in a heartbeat and stop on a dime―in order to meet any schedule.

I put to use the lessons learned during my last 17 years as an officer and leader in the Navy; the result is this website and the staff behind it.

I built UWS to be the service that I would want. I’m proud to say that I use it myself.

Why don’t you give it a try?
